Univoice

Hearing impairment refers to the complete or partial reduction of the auditory function's ability to sense or understand sound due to a disease or injury in a certain part of the auditory system, resulting in difficulty in speech communication. We transform the human voice into a unique form, making the audience achieve relative equality when they hearing the voice.

Inspiration

Last quarter in my language class, a girl's presentation touched my heart. Her pronunciation is strange, and different from others, but no one will laugh at her, sarcastic her, because she is a patient with hearing impairment, she has tried her best to make the presentation well. Because of the respect to her, I think we need to do something.

In order to understand the feeling of hearing impaired people, we found a video to simulate the sound heard by hearing impaired people.

Interview

Ava, 23ys old, China

When many people talk, I can't distinguish everyone's voice, so I can't hear them. I only have one-on-one conversations that are almost accessible.

I used to feel inferior because I knew that I was different from others in many cases, such as hospitals, interviews, friends parties, phone calls. But later I found that I had the right to appeal. If I didn't hear it clearly, I could let others repeat it. If I couldn't hear the call when I went to the hospital, I could ask for help in advance to let the nurse remind me. So my current state of mind is that I am not different from others except that I may not be able to hear them clearly.

When I listen to other people's speech, it seems that my ears are covered, and I am listening to other people's speech across a universe, which makes me lose the sense of distance from the voice. I'm easily distracted by external sounds, but I can communicate with others by focusing on lip language, although others may need to enlarge decibels.

I try to be the same as others, but I know it's impossible. I'm used to the curiosity and compassion of others, even if it would cause me negative emotions in the past. In some social situations, my negative emotions may enlarge, but now I can use some devices to make up for them. I also believe that I can do better in other aspects to make up for it. As long as my knowledge and thoughts are not backward, I am still a good youth full of hope for the future.
